How the LTE speed test works
As with the UMTS speed test, larger packets of data are transmitted during the speed measurement.
Since LTE is currently the fastest, technically available solution for transferring data in the mobile network, the speed test offers very extensive measurements at this point. The transferred data volume can be up to 120 MByte (per test run).
What's the point of LTE if you have VDSL or fiber?
LTE brings high-speed Internet into our lives. At last, videos from YouTube, movies, or TV shows can be transmitted without delay over the air. Downloads are noticeably faster, since LTE enables bandwidths of up to 150 Mbps.
Vodafone, O2, and of course Telekom offer high-speed Internet via LTE in many regions of Germany. In the future, bandwidths of up to 300 Mbit/s will probably be possible via LTE.
By way of comparison, a high-performance VDSL connection generally achieves "only" around 50 Mbit/s, i.e. just 33% of what is already possible with LTE today! Since very high traffic quotas are now offered by providers, using LTE as an alternative to DSL/cable Internet can really be very worthwhile!
